What is YouTube Video ID

Every YouTube Video has an identification of combination of alpha numeric words which is known as YouTube Video ID. To find Video ID of a Youtube Video, go to that video page & look at the URL of that page, at the end of URL bar you will combination of numbers and letters after an equal sign =. That's your YouTube Video ID.

Example:

yZMuxORKk-k  is your YouTube Video ID

Youtube Thumbnails

How to get a YouTube video thumbnail from YouTube?

Every YouTube video has 4 generated images. They are predictably formatted as follows:

The first one in the list is a full size image and others are thumbnail images. The default thumbnail image (ie. one of 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg) is:

For the high quality version of the thumbnail use a url similar to this:

https://img.youtube.com/vi/Insert-YT-Video-ID/hqdefault.jpg

There is also a medium quality version of the thumbnail, using a url similar to the HQ:

https://img.youtube.com/vi/Insert-YT-Video-ID/mqdefault.jpg

For the standard definition version of the thumbnail, use a url similar to this:

For the maximum resolution version of the thumbnail use a url similar to this:

All of the above urls are available over http too. Additionally, the slightly shorter hostname i3.ytimg.com works in place of img.youtube.com in the example urls above.

Note: sddefault and maxresdefault are not available for all videos.

Size of YouTube Channel Cover or Cover Art

Image size & file guidelines

• Minimum dimension for upload: 2048 x 1152 px.

• Minimum safe area for text and logos: 1546 x 423 px. Larger images may get cropped on certain views or devices.

• Maximum width: 2560 x 423 px. This means that the "safe area" is always visible regardless of screen size. The areas to each side of the channel art are visible or cropped depending on browser size.

• File size: 6MB or smaller.

Channel art looks different on desktop, mobile, and TV displays — larger images may be cropped. For the best results on all devices, we recommend uploading one 2560px  x 1440px image.

Size of YouTube Channel Icon or Channel Profile Picture

Use these recommended guidelines when creating a new channel icon. Do not upload pictures containing celebrities, nudity, artwork, or copyrighted images since this violates YouTube's Community Guidelines.

• JPG, GIF, BMP, or PNG file (no animated GIFs)
• 800px x 800px image (recommended)
• The optimal size for YouTube channel art is 2560px x 1440px.
• Square or round image that renders at 98px x 98px
  

Channel Icon display on different devices

Computer

The channel icon appears as a square image in the upper left corner of the channel art.

Mobile devices

The channel icon can look different depending on your device.

It can appear as a rounded image in the bottom corner of the channel art.

It can also appear as a square image below the channel art.

Size of Custom Youtube Thumbnail

Image size & resolution

Your custom thumbnail image should be as large as possible, as the image will also be used as the preview image in the embedded player. We recommend your custom thumbnails:

• Have a resolution of 1280px x 720px (with minimum width of 640 pixels).
• Be uploaded in image formats such as .JPG, .GIF, .BMP, or .PNG. 
• Remain under the 2 MB limit. 
• Try to use a 16:9 aspect ratio as it's the most used in YouTube players and previews.

Size of YouTube Video

By Google's own recommendations, your image should be 1280 x 720 pixels, with a minimum width of 640 pixels. A ratio of 16:9 is ideal as it's used most often in YouTube players and previews
